Chapter 1: The Divine Revelation
The holy text begins in the Naimisharanya forest, where the great sage Suta Maha Muni addresses an assembly of eighty-thousand revered rishis. The sages, seeking a path of liberation for mankind during the age of Kali Yuga, ask Suta to describe a ritual that yields peace and fulfills all desires.
Suta Muni reveals that this exact query was once posed by the divine sage Narada to the Supreme Lord Narayana (Vishnu) Himself. Narada, during his travels across the earthly realm, was deeply moved by the intense, unavoidable suffering of human beings. To find a remedy, he ascended to Vaikuntha and approached the four-armed Lord Vishnu, who was adorned with the Kaustubha gem.
With immense compassion, Lord Vishnu revealed the Satyanarayan Vrat. The Lord declared: "Any human being who performs this auspicious worship with sincere faith, gathers friends and family, listens attentively to the sacred stories (Katha), and joyfully distributes the holy sweet Prasad will be immediately liberated from all earthly miseries, attain absolute peace in this life, and gain eternal salvation in the hereafter."
